Taan uses the voices available through your operating system and browser. Voice quality and availability may vary; full narration is currently optimized for desktop.
Mobile note: some mobile browsers do not expose the voices needed for full narration. For now, Taan works best on desktop.

What Taan is
Taan is a web app designed to make it easier to listen to books, stories, and documents directly from the browser.
Temporary processing
It temporarily processes EPUB, PDF, DOCX, and TXT files to extract text, detect sections when possible, organize paragraphs, and prepare digital narration.
Not a publishing platform
Uploaded documents are not offered to other people, added to a public catalog, or used to train artificial intelligence models.
The origin of the name
The name is inspired by t’aan, a voice from Maayat’aan, also called Yucatec Maya, associated with word, speech, and language.
Respectful adaptation
Taan is a brand adaptation. It does not claim to represent Mayan languages, communities, institutions, or linguistic authorities.
Technology serving words
Taan does not replace books or human voices; it expands how a person can meet a text: reading, listening, or moving between both experiences.

Will Taan publish my files?
No. Uploaded files are not added to the public library or published as site content. The narrator is separate from the editorial catalog.
Can it read scanned PDFs?
Image-based PDFs need OCR. For now, the best results come from PDFs with selectable text.
Why is desktop recommended?
Because browser narration depends on the Web Speech API. Voice quality and availability vary by browser and operating system.
